Abysmal Grief/Black Oath/Cultus Sanguine/Epitaph "Epitome of Dark Sound" split LP
The Italian Dark Sound phenomenon refers to a uniquely eerie and atmospheric strain of heavy metal and rock that emerged from Italy in the late 1970s and flourished throughout the 1980s. Deeply rooted in the occult, horror cinema, and progressive rock traditions, it’s defined by a macabre aesthetic, theatrical songwriting, and an unmistakable sense of gloom. Bands such as Death SS, Paul Chain Violet Theatre, and Black Hole became central figures in shaping this sound by merging Sabbathian doom riffs with spectral keyboards, haunting vocals, and ritualistic performances.
Later on, several acts carried the torch into the modern era, preserving its sepulchral atmosphere and fascination with death, religion, and the supernatural. Four of those bands - namely Abysmal Grief, Black Oath, Cultus Sanguine, and Epitaph - are represented here on this four-way split LP, featuring seven new and unreleased tracks. A true must for connoisseurs.
