Demon Head "Viscera" LP

From the shadowy streets of Copenhagen comes Viscera, Demon Head’s fourth and most immersive full-length to date. Drenched in the gloom of the Danish winter, this album unfolds like a cold breath on the back of your neck: slow, dissonant, and utterly spellbinding. The band self-identifies as “diabolic rock”, and Viscera lives up to that name. Expect a slow-burning blend of doom, 70s-inspired heavy rock, and gothic despair. Songs creep forward at a snail’s pace, carried by lugubrious chants, eerie harmonies, and unsettling guitar lines. The unique dual vocal approach with Marcus Ferreira Larsen’s tortured leads and Birk Gjerlufsen Nielsen’s falsetto/baritone backing gives the album a ritualistic, liturgical feel that sets Demon Head apart from their peers. Fans of The Devil’s Blood, Blood Ceremony, Jess and the Ancient Ones, and Molassess will find plenty to admire here, but Demon Head carve out their own sepulchral path with Viscera, a record that won’t lift your spirits, but will certainly deepen the shadows. For fans of: The Devil’s Blood, Dool, Pentagram, Coven, In Solitude. Recommended if you like your rock occult, your doom dismal, and your winter long.
