Røkkr "Den ufortalte saga" LP

Featuring members of Arkæon, Denial Of God, Gennem Tågen, and Gespenst, Røkkr delivers a chaotic and uncompromising form of black metal that refuses to hold the listener’s hand. The music is dissonant, unpredictable, and relentless, but for those who stick with it, the reward is immense. The opening track “Ukendte strande” sets the tone with jazzy guitar figures, restrained blast beats, and vocals that seamlessly shift between snarling and chanting. The title track takes it even further, throwing in medieval guitar melodies, clean vocals, and a tremolo solo out of nowhere and yet it all works. Drummer Nohr deserves special mention for his masterful, jazz-inspired playing, especially on the cymbals, which ties the chaos together with precision and flair. Røkkr is not for the faint of heart, but for those seeking the bold and unconventional in black metal, this is one of the year’s most compelling Danish releases.
