Røkkr "Mørkdrøm" LP

Mørkdrøm is the second chapter in Røkkr’s trilogy and picks up exactly where Den ufortalte saga left off, both stylistically and compositionally. The album opener “Over sorte vande” echoes the closing moments of “Forsvundet i Nordens mørke”, linking the two albums and reinforcing the overarching narrative. Musically, Røkkr continues their dissonant, chaotic brand of atmospheric black metal, rich with synth layers and an unorthodox approach. This time around, however, the chaos feels slightly more controlled, and while still intense, the album leans a bit more into structure and atmosphere than pure unpredictability. The production is murkier than on the debut, giving the album a submerged, almost drowning sensation whether intentional or not, it adds to the oppressive mood. As always, drummer Nohr delivers a stellar performance, with jazz-influenced rhythms that remain a key force in shaping Røkkr’s sound.
